RM700mil for MSC Cyberport City

OHOR BARU: MSC Cyberport Sdn Bhd will be investing RM700mil to develop a 150-acre MSC Cyberport City in Kulai’s Indahpura integrated township.

Chief executive officer Ganesh Kumar Bangah said work on the project would start in the middle of the year for completion in 2009.

He expects MSC Cyberport City to attract about 100 companies in its first year of operation, and bring in RM300mil in investment.

“We are currently talking to several ICT-related companies in Bangalore, India to set up operations in MSC Cyberport City,” he said at the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Cyberport Holdings Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd (MDV) yesterday.

Ganesh Kumar signed on behalf of MSC Cyberport Johor while MDV was represented by its managing director and chief executive officer Mohd Zubir Ansori. The signing was witnessed by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman.

He said that foreign interest had been encouraging with more than 60% of the applications to set up operation in MSC Cyberport City from foreign companies.

“We want to position Cyberport City as the ICT Hub in South-East Asia for call centres, software and content

companies,” said Ganesh Kumar.

He said most of the foreign companies, which would come from Singapore, could be Singapore-founded and owned companies or foreign companies based there.

Ganesh Kumar said the project would be a success due to its position within the multi-billion ringgit Iskandar Development Region, with Kulai-Senai as the ICT corridor.

The project would be jointly developed by Cyberport Holdings Sdn Bhd (CHSB) and Kumpulan Prasarana Johor Sdn Bhd (KPRJ), a 100% subsidiary of the Johor Government. MSC Cyberport is 30% by KPRJ and 70%-owned by owned by CHSB. The former is responsible for implementing other ICT programmes in the state.

Ganesh Kumar said the company would also export its expertise in developing software and had had signed a MoU to develop e-local government software for Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh City Council.
